Questions to Ask Yourself before You Purchase a Safe
A safe is a substantial purchase, so before you dive into safe shopping, you’ll have to ask yourself several questions to get you on track. When your through answering these questions for yourself, you may even come to the conclusion that you don’t need a safe. Either way, in order to make a wise safe purchase, you’ll need to mull over several things first in order to find which safe is best suited to your needs, or if you even need one at all.
What will you be storing in the safe? How much do your valuables cost?
This is not only the most important question, but it’s the entire point of buying a safe in the first place. Are your valuables irreplaceable? Do they have significant sentimental value or untold monetary value?
If you’re storing jewelry or watches, you’ll want to consider luxury jewelry safes or estate safes, which includes a soft interior and special compartments to keep your valuable jewelry. Some home jewelry safes include special features designed especially for the easy of storage of high end jewelry.
What about if you’re storing more lightweight items, such as documents, photos or money? These things may not be as high in monetary value as jewelry, but they could be just as irreplaceable, and keeping them confidential and well-protected could be vital. In this case, a well-graded fireproof safe could be just what you need to protect your documents from any misfortune, such as a house fire.
How often will you be opening your safe?
This is also an important consideration, as the some methods of opening a safe will take more time than others.
If you plan on using your safe often – about 10 times a day or more – then a digital padlock safe may be your best bet, as these as specially designed for quick access, far faster than traditional combination dial locks. If you plan on using your safe often, a combination dial, while always sturdy and long-lasting, will take longer to open and can sometimes be cumbersome.
How many items will you store? How large are said items?
This is yet another key question, as it will determine how large your safe should be. One good tip is to buy a safe that is twice as large as you need – it’s better to have too much space than to end up with too little! Also, who knows when you’ll gain more valuables to put into your safe.
